The Joneses (R edited)
Genre: Dark Comedy?
Jake's Rating: 2.5 stars
Cami's Rating: 3.5 stars
I had absolutely no idea what this movie was about when Jake got it. But it actually turned out to be better than I thought in a sort of philosophical way, and I even recommended it to my parents.
Summary: A family moves into an affluent neighborhood and they seem to have everything--the clothes, the furniture, the happy life, the toys--and everyone is jealous. What the neighbors don't know is that the Joneses as just at work to sell them everything by suggestion, and that they're not even related. But when things get serious, they have to decide if this is the life for them.
Thoughts: It kind of blames materialism and the need to "keep up" for everyone's own bad personal choices, but other than that, it raises some interesting questions, makes for some interesting conversation. And the romantic part of it really wasn't overdone, so that's nice. It just shows that no matter what kind of life you're living, if it looks perfect, it obviously isn't, and that things don't fix everything. Not that we needed a movie to tell us that, but it was an interesting take.
